Summary:
Quite possibly the most entertaining game of the season. It was always going to be a very tight game, as the past two games between CheckMeOut and White magic.
One team has the league leading defence, the other, the league leading offence. And tonight you could not split the two, and the shared points was richly deserved by both teams.
CheckMeOut took the lead (one they would not surrender) from a superb Ashby strike. The tight defensive battle continued for a further 5 minutes, until Ashby struck yet again to give CheckMeOut a two goal lead heading into half time. White Magic yet to score.
In the second half, an early goal to White Magic cut the lead to one goal, only to be followed up after a tense few minutes by another Ashby goal, securing his hat-trick. White Magic then hit back with another goal and CheckMeOut looked destined to get the win with the last minute well and truly nearing the end. However, White Magic persisted and managed to pick up a very late consolation goal with 10 seconds remaining. As the ball was placed after the goal, the whistle blew and the game was immortalised in time. CheckMeOut becoming the first team to deny White Magic of the 2 points. A credit to the team, playing without Watson.
Both teams had their chances to close out the game however. Throughout the first and second halves, Templer and Davis were unlucky not to score in a vacated net. While White Magic were unlucky not to score from a deflection off of Ashby which sailed into the post. As was expected, without the extra player, the team was forced to endure the whole match without substitutions, but they managed to do so, and were constantly pressuring White Magic. The top team, clearly not out of reach to at least one team in the league.
Three Stars:
Third Star: M. Templer - played very well and unselfishly. Set up plays all night, unlucky not to score.
Second Star: C. Roussos - An allstar defensive game. Cut the amount of shots, along with Davis that White Magic had on goal almost in half. Also set up a lot of good plays along the midfield.
First Star: L. Ashby - You would be hard set finding a better game. 3 goals, and really stood up when the team needed him. Played superbly in defence as well.
