Summary:
The momentum is gathering on the CheckMeOut jugganout.
Two second half goals and exceptional play all round, including in goals, proved that CheckMeOut is a completely different side than the one which lost to Ethnics 7 weeks ago.
The first half was a very tight defensive struggle with Ethnics managing just 3 shots, CheckMeOut managing just 4. It was a highlighted half on both goaltenders. Ethnics Goaltender putting on some good saves to deny goals, while McDonald used his head, or more accurately his face to prevent Ethnics from getting a jump on CheckMeOut.
In the second half, the story was a little different. CheckMeOut began to find holes in the Ethnics defence and made them pay for doing it. The first, in the 20th minute, starting from all the way down field in the goals, McDonald sends a field long pass down to Watson who finds space and buries a mis-cued kick into the back of the net, Watson's return capped off brilliantly, his 1 goal a game average still going.
The other goal, was also set up by McDonald who stopped a weak shot inside the D and then launched it down the right hand side, finding Davis and Ashby in space, Davis held the ball and then passed to Ashby with some space in front, Ashby held, waited for the defence to attack him, then passed the ball perfectly to Davis who buried his 20th goal of the season, making up for a missed opportunity by Roussos who was only denied by both posts 2 minutes earlier.
From there, McDonald had to make a fairly risky save, coming to the edge of the D on his left side and blocking the ball with his feet to prevent a cross into the empty net, he did so and that pretty much sealed the fate of Ethnics.
CheckMeOut by 2 in their Captain's return, and a very unlikely clean sheet for McDonald, who hasn't played a game in a month. Between he and backup tender Klaver, the CheckMeOut tandem have not let in a goal for 60 minutes.
Three Stars:
Third Star: M. Templer - A solid, much more midfield game by Templer, floated back constantly to provide extra defensive pressure and then upfield to add some sting to the CheckMeOut offence's tail.
Third Star: L. Ashby - Not much more you could ask from this player, he played his role to perfection, providing pressure up forward and also assisting with Davis' goal.
Third Star: C. Roussos - Once again, a fantastic game in defence. All but shut down Tazz single handedly, a catalyst for CheckMeOut's win.
